St. Oswald’s Church ‘Support Day’
The historic Church of St Oswald in Malpas is in a stunning building given the size of the village. Its’ location, visible from the surrounding countryside, really helps to put Malpas “on the map” of places to visit. It houses lots of historic background about the village, including the War Memorial, plus works of art (not least the fabulous ceiling). Even if you are not a regular church goer, the church is there for the whole village, both for celebrating special events in family life or enjoying the traditional services in the church’s year. The church can also be hired for concerts and other entertainment events and has facilities for serving refreshments.
We are very fortunate to have a building of this scale and beauty available to us, but inevitably it does cost a lot to keep it cleaned, heated, insured and maintained; actually about £1500 per week! We would like to encourage all residents of Malpas to feel connected to the village church and to help us to keep it safe and sound by making a contribution to its’ upkeep.
On Saturday October 2nd the church will be open for a special “Malpas Church Support Day”. We will be collecting any contributions on this day specifically for maintaining the fabric of the church, and we warmly invite you to drop in any time for refreshments and enjoy some musical entertainment at 12.30pm. All support will be greatly appreciated and help to ensure our Village Church is there for future generations.
Please join us at St Oswald’s Church for light refreshments, to tour the Church and view all the historic features throughout the day and at lunchtime enjoy an informal Organ Recital on the famous Lewis Organ given by our Director of Music Stewart Smith with flute solos by Oliver Smith.
