On Sunday 14 September 2014 in St Oswald’s Church there was a Requiem Mass to commemorate those who gave their lives from the Benefice in World War One. This was a very special service in which all the names of the fallen from Malpas, Threapwood, and Bickerton were read out. The choir of St Oswald’s Malpas sang Faure’s beautiful and moving Requiem as part of the service.
This was part of the Benefice’s marking of the centenary of the First World War. In addition to the services which took place on 3 and 4 August to mark the outbreak of war, there were also display boards in St Oswald’s and information at the back of Holy Trinity about the life of some of the servicemen who went and fought in the conflict.
